In more than 12 years of experience in clinical psychology, I’ve worked with over a hundred clients looking for direction in life and needing help to overcome problems and difficulties.
In recent years, I’ve taken an important step into private practice and started Mid-Canterbury Psychology, enjoying the sense of fulfilment in being able to make a difference in other people’s lives, as well as in providing supervision to my colleagues within the same or other areas of practice. To ensure that I maintain professional and ethical standards in my work, my passion for learning is never ending and my continuous professional development allows me to draw from a wide range of treatment therapies, best suited to each individual.
The experiences I gained serving under the Department of Corrections for several years, as well as for Rural Canterbury Primary Health Organisation have gained me a deep insight on a broad range of studies dealing with psychological problems and mental disorders. These experiences have fully equipped me to assess and treat a variety of presenting problems and assist in skill development. I have trained in a number of therapy methods, specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I find that I deliver the best outcome using an integration of complementary techniques which are best suited to specific requirements of each individual including evidence based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness Based CBT.
My areas of expertise covers a range of psychological problems that include sexual abuse, mental illness, drug addiction, trauma, family adjustments and stress, behavioural problems and assessment of learning disabilities among other concerns.
Creating a supportive, non-intimidating and compassionate environment, I provide a knowledgeable, yet understanding and creative approach. Thus, an active participation from an individual is encouraged, paving the way to achieving emotional well-being for sustainable relationships and balanced lifestyle management. I am currently based in Methven Community House. I spend my time seeing my clients face to face, delivering supervision, and writing reports.
Don’t be afraid to take that first step. I will be working with you holistically and collaboratively to ensure healing that will empower you and your family, as well.
